The Cowboy's Deathmatch | Puzzle 17

Question

There were Two cowboys who decided to play a strange game of death -"DeathMatch".

Following are the rules for the DeathMatch: 

1. They both need to fire the total of 23 bullets. 

2. They will have to shoot one by one.

3. They have the option to shoot once or twice in their chance(it's their decision).

4. The one that shoots at last i.e., the 23rd shot needs to fire the bullet at himself.

Now the question is if you were one of the cowboys, will you shoot first or second at the beginning?

Solution

Shooting 1st will save your life.

- You Shoot once.

- Then shot opposite of what the other cowboy shoot i.e., if another cowboy shots 2 times, you shot once and vice versa.

- After the 15 shots, bullet remaining will be 23(total at beginning) - 1(your first shot) - 7(2+1)(your technique) = 1

- The other cowboy needs to fire the last bullet and hence he will be dead.
