Question

You have been provided with a flashlight that can operate on two working batteries. 
You also have eight batteries with you, Out of that eight batteries, only four are in the working condition. But you don't know which four batteries are those.

Can you find out the least number of pairs that you must test to guarantee that you can get your flashlight on?

The best way is that you divide the batteries into three groups. 
Two groups of three batteries and One group of two batteries.

In the groups with three batteries, you can have three possible combinations in each group. In the group with two batteries, you can have just one possible combination. 

Hence, the total combinations: 3 + 3 + 1 = 7, you get the least number of pairs you must check.
